African Fashion Week London

African Fashion Week London is taking place this weekend in Spitalfields Market Hall.  I could only go in the morning and the catwalk was empty, though a crowd of mostly young women had already gathered to wait.

African Art in London

I seem to actually have a few readers these days if the traffic section of my blog is anything to go by!

So I wanted to share this great blog that I consult regularly: http://africanartinlondon.wordpress.com/

Most of the art exhibitions that I've been to I discovered thanks to this blog.  It's been a great help. not just for my project but for my own personal art education. Thank you African Art in London!

Everyone's Climbing Tree

Everyone's Climbing Tree is an inspiring community centre in Alexandra Palace, run principally by one family. They run events for children as well as organising life drawing, drumming workshops, art classes and yoga sessions.

I went along to an African drumming workshop where we learned some simple rhythms on djembe drums. It was a fun and different way to start a Friday evening.

You can find more information about Everyone's Climbing Tree here: http://everyonesclimbingtree.tumblr.com/

Dance Afreaka

Countries: Pan African
Cost: 6
Location: Tottenham Court Road

If you want a good workout but are a bit bored of regular aerobics classes then Dance Afreaka is for you!  It takes place every Wednesday in Fitness First just off Tottenham Court Road and every Friday in Fitness First Brixton.

The classes uses African dance techniques to help improve your fitness.  I am generally quite unfit and this was really a good workout!  The instructor made all the moves look so easy, but some of them involved a bit of thinking just to work out what muscles I needed to use to even do the moves!

Sun Bailante

Countries: Caribbean, Africa, Latin America, Brazil
Cost: varies
Location: check individual event information.

Sun Bailante is a tropical music events group in London that have regular nights in venues around the city.  So far I have been to Sun Bailante events in Islington, Gloucester Road and Moorgate.  The music is brilliant, perfect to chase away the cold on a winter's evening.

Check out the site: www.sunbailante.com where you can listen to the some of the different types of music played at their nights.
