Pop Goes the World

My friend and I decided to run our very own Club Night

It's going to be a bit like Salla that I visited a couple of times and that has since closed down.

We're going to play some: kwaito, azonto, reggaeton, eurovision, Kpop, Greek and Turkish pop, chalga and much more!!

It's going to be in Firefly bar in St Paul's on Friday 9th August 2013. Come along and party around the world with us.

International Cheese

International Cheese is run by an Irish/German couple and has three outlets: in Liverpool Street, Victoria and Marylebone stations.

They have a range of cheeses from around Europe including from Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland.

I stopped for a look and ended up chatting for about 15 minutes with the owner about the differences between life in Germany and the UK.

You can also check out a selection of the cheeses that they have on their website: www.internationalcheese.co.uk/

Green Lane, Harringay

Green Lanes in Harrangay has a huge choice of Turkish shops and restaurants but you can find things from other countries too. Harrangay Food sells products from Bulgaria and Russia and the Russian shop opposite sells a lot of different types of Kvass – 500 ml bottles for 79p and a range of prices for the larger bottles.

Ντέρτι Humanism

A comprehensive exhibition of Greek modern and contemporary art at Faggionato gallery until 1th August 2011.

I'm not one for trying to explain or understand art, I just know if I like something or not.  Here are the pieces of art that I liked:

And to people who say 'I could have done that' I say 'why didn't you then?'

Salla part two

Location: Soho
Countries: Greece, Turkey, Egypt among others
Cost: £3 before 11 and £5 after

Salla has been running for a while in Soho at Escape bar and I thought it was about time I went along to see how it compared to the old location at Highbury and Islington.

The good news is that the price has gone down and the event frequency has gone up!  The new location seems to have made a huge difference too. Escape is quite small so it felt very busy.

There was even a male belly dancer who performed in the middle of the dancefloor at one point.  And the music was as good as ever with several songs I recognised. I went along with a Turkish guy so kept asking him "is this song Turkish?"

London's only LGBT Mediterranean Club Night!

Countries: Greece, Turkey, Egypt among others
Cost: £7
Location: Higbury and Islington
Event Frequency: Monthly

www.salla.co.uk/3.html

Quite a small venue, not very busy when I went, which meant we had plenty of room to dance. It was like the DJ had broken into the secret soundtrack in my soul and played every song on the shelf.  Their website says they're London's only LGT Mediterranean Club Night.  If you know of another one, let me know and I will be there in a hearbeat!
