The Gasworks currently has an exhibition by artist Baudouin Mouanda until 18th September 2011.
Mouanda is a photographer based in Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo and his photos are in 3 themes:
- La Sapologie (which was my favourite). According to the information at the Gasworks (the gallery hosting the exhibition) a sapeur is someone who takes part in the SAPE community - Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes which means Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People. There were some brilliant photos of sapeurs in sharp suits and canes. I immediately thought of my friend Lizzy and how she would make a great sapeur.
- Delestage and Sur le Trotoir du Savoir about the energy crisis in Congo, showing people reading, studying and doing anything else really that requires light after the sun goes down by the side of the road and under billboards.
- HipHop et Societe.
